Programmable thermostats for your HVAC system can be a great choice. Having to constantly adjust the temperature with an old standard thermostat can be inconvenient and could be costing you money. Installing a programmable thermostat is very easy and is a project which can be handled by the homeowner. To determine if you may benefit from a programmable thermostat please read the following article and decide.

A good programmable thermostat may not be for everyone. These thermostats are often quite expensive, so be certain these thermostats will work for your situation before rushing out to make a purchase. A programmable thermostat for your HVAC system works extremely well for families or individuals who have set schedules. These thermostats can be set to adjust temperatures while the family is sleeping to save energy and likewise while away at work and school. It may also be set to increase heating or cooling at a certain point right before the family gets up to start the day, and then reverse the settings once everyone has left. These thermostats may not be to the benefit of people who are always home or constantly coming and going.

There are certain benefits which can be received by installing a programmable step. The main benefit of these thermostats is the cost saving the homeowner may realize. By being able to exactly program temperatures you can make very efficient use of your HVAC system. Enormous energy savings can be realized simply by making these small program changes. Also, the HVAC system benefits by decreased strain on the system of constant use when no one is around.

As stated, a good programmable thermostat can be an expensive purchase, but in the right situations may pay for itself in a relatively short period of time. Make certain these thermostats will work in your situation.

Cleaning your HVAC ventilation system something which needs to be done. The thought of cleaning duct work in your home is something that does not cross many people’s minds. Items such as these, which are for the most part, are out of sight are rarely thought about. However, having clean ducts in your home is something which is vital to the air quality you breathe. This is especially true if there are asthma sufferers in the home. Keeping the ducts clean in your house can greatly reduce asthma flareups.

There is no good way to clean the HVAC ducts in your home on your own. This requires specialized cleaning by companies utilizing specialized equipment which is not available to the general public. Many carpet cleaning companies offer duct cleaning as an add-on service. This can be quite convenient since you can have your ducts cleaned at the same time as your carpet.

These companies will clean the duct work by using vacuum and agitation. They have systems which will allow them to seal off all the vents in the home and then use a vacuum system to suck out debris while they feed a specialized tool similar to a plumber’s snake which will help scrub the vents clean.

Duct cleaning is often not very expensive and is charged by how many vents are located in the home. The process should be performed once a year to keep your indoor air quality high. If you have severe allergies or asthma you may want to have your duct work cleaned more often.

Changing the filters on your HVAC system regularly will greatly reduce the amount of dirt and dust which can accumulate in the duct work. Many filters claim a time frame of three months between needing changed; however, even these more expensive filters often need changing once a month.

Radiant floor heaters directly supply heat to the house flooring, and they depend heavily on convection – the natural circulation of heat within a room – to cause heat to rise above the floor. You should know that radiant floor heaters are entirely different from the radiant heating systems used in walls and ceilings. However, they offer the same advantages, which include the following:

They are more efficient as compared to baseboard and forced air heating systems.

They lack moving air which makes them perfect for people with serious allergies.

They can be powered with the use of varying energy resources.

In general, radiant floor heaters can be classified in three major types — air-heated, electric, and hydronic.

Air-heated Radiant Floors: They are seldom installed for residential application because of the inability of air to hold large amounts of heat. Despite the fact that they can be used in conjunction with a solar air heating system, radiant air floors can still suffer from major drawbacks since they can be only used during day (because this is the only time that heating demands are generally lower).

Electric Radiant Floors: These heaters are usually composed of electric cables that are built into the house flooring. Some models feature mats of electrically conductive plastic, which are mounted unto the subfloor or below a floor covering, like the tiles. Since they are electrically-charged, the installation will surely produce high electricity cost. That being said, they are best used when the floor’s thermal mass is large enough. This way, the stored heat can keep the house warm and comfortable for at least eight to ten hours, without drawing further electrical input.

Hydronic Radiant Floors: Among the three types, the hydronic floors are the most popular and cost-effient floor heating option. They produce heat by pumping heated water from the boiler through the tubing laid underneath the flooring.

Like when choosing a heater repair technician, careful evaluation and thorough assessment is needed to come up with an informed decision. Therefore, you really have to weigh the pros and cons of each type of radiant floor heaters in order to end up with the best choice!

Although most problems related to HVAC systems require professional intervention, there are some which can be fixed with minor troubleshooting. It is important that you are knowledgeable about the particular type of HVAC system present in your home so that you can easily determine the exact location of the problem before deciding to call in the big guns. That being said, here is what you should do when a problem arises on your HVAC system:

First, turn off and unplug your HVAC system before you begin with the troubleshooting. After which, thoroughly check the radiators and pipes to ascertain that they slope back to the boiler. When your HVAC system produces a hammering sound and is not heating properly, then its slope connection must be corrected.

If you suspect leaking due to repeatedly low water levels in your system, then the best thing to do is to close the water valve, and monitor your HVAC unit for several days. In the event that the unit’s water level continuously drops even if you have already closed the valve, immediately seek the help of a professional HVAC technician.

Gently touch the expansion tank to examine the amount of air present inside. A good indication that it is functioning properly is when the lower portion of the tank feels warmer than the top. However, if the tank feels hot all over, then it means that you need to drain it because it is already filled with water.

If you hear a hissing sound in your HVAC system, open the air vent valve, with aid of a screwdriver, to remove the trapped air inside the radiator. After that, close the vent and re-open the unit to check if the hissing sound is gone.

In case your unit requires serious and extensive ventilation, air-conditioning or heater repair, it is best that you hire the services of an experienced Atlanta HVAC technician to ensure that the problem would be properly addressed.

Many people ask us why we call ourselves Atlatnta HVAC Pros. The answer to that question is simple, we pride ourselves in being true professionals. If you want a handyman to come out and service your heating and air conditioning equipment there are many options available to you, however, if you want a company that really cares about making sure that each and every customer is treated with courtesy and respect, then call us.

How are we different?

One of the most obvious ways that we distinguish ourselves is with our technicians. Our service team leader is Eric Abernathy. Eric has worked at several heating and air conditioning companies all over the country and has extensive experience in the business. Prior to taking over as our head technician he worked locally for Atlanta Cooling and Heating. He was a star technician while working there and when we had the opportunity to offer him the head job at our company we were very fortunate to be able to lure him away. In his 4 years with us he has set an extremely high standard for everyone on his team. He is simply one of the very best trainers that any young HVAC technician could have. He handles the training for each and every new technician and his attention to detail trickles down to every service member. We are very proud to have Eric leading the way.

How do our prices compare to our competition?

We believe that the combination of our extremely competitive pricing and outstanding service are one of a kind in our industry. Most companies will either choose to compete on price or on service but we do both. If you have a written estimate from any one of our local competitors, we will match or beat it. If you ever have a problem with any one of our technicians who is performing a job at your home, we won’t stop until we make it right and you are a satisfied customer. To put it plainly, we value our customers and want to keep them. Offering the best price we can and the best service anywhere is just good business and you should expect nothing less from a true professionals.

In order for your air conditioner to work its best, you need to take care of the equipment and keep it in excellent working condition. Depending on what type of air conditioning you have, central or window units, the maintenance is different.

With window units the best way to extend the life of those units is to either remove them from the window when summer is over, or to cover them on the outside with a special cover. Removing the units may be a harder job, but if you can do it and store the air conditioner away, it will last longer.

When it comes to central air conditioning there are a few things you can do yourself to maintain the unit. Make sure to change your intake filter at least monthly, especially if you have pets. Those filters are inexpensive and you do not want to skimp on that step. If you can buy a permanent intake filter, do so. That filter will cost more, but you can wash it down with a hose and put it back in. The better the air filter, the better the air flow.

Take a look at your outside compressor unit for any type of damage. That unit should not be blocked by anything. It needs to have full air circulation. If there is a tree close to the unit, trim the tree back. Make sure the kids don’t lean anything up against the unit such as cardboard or wooden boards.

Take the floor vent grills off periodically and vacuum the opening. If you or your family members have allergies, there are filters you can put inside the vents which will help trap dirt and dust.

Those are just some of the small maintenance steps you can do as a home owner. The best advice to get the most out of your central air conditioning is to call a professional in at the beginning of the season to perform air conditioning maintenance. There are regular maintenance steps that he can provide that will enable your equipment to run properly and keep you comfortably
